Pallet Four-Way Shuttle ASRS for Lubricant Additive Warehousing

2026-06-19

For lubricant additive manufacturers, Warehouse Automation is no longer only about storing more products. As production capacity expands, companies also need safer storage, faster material turnover, better batch control, and a smoother connection between production and warehousing.

Lubricant additives are often stored in different packaging formats, including round drums, square IBC containers, raw materials, auxiliary materials, and finished products. These materials require clear zoning, stable handling, and accurate inventory management. A traditional flat warehouse can struggle with space utilization, manual handling pressure, and traceability.

A pallet four-way Shuttle Asrs provides a more suitable solution for this type of chemical warehousing scenario.

Project Background

In one DELIECN project, the customer is a leading lubricant additive manufacturer in China. Its products include gasoline engine oil additive packages, diesel engine oil additive packages, marine oil additive packages, industrial oil additive packages, and many other product categories. With growing production capacity and increasing demand from both upstream and downstream markets, the customer needed to upgrade its 5,120㎡ warehouse into a more intelligent and digital warehouse logistics system.

The project goal was to build a system that could connect production, storage, and Warehouse Management with higher efficiency and better control.

Customer Requirements

The customer had three major requirements:

  • High-density storage for finished lubricant additives, raw materials, round drums, and square IBC containers.
  • Connect the production workshop with the automated warehouse through an intelligent conveying interface.
  • Stable high-throughput capability to support daily production and shipping requirements.

DELIECN Solution

DELIECN designed an integrated intelligent pallet four-way Shuttle Asrs solution. The system included:

10.8 m Design Height
6-Level Racking Structure
9,072 Pallet Locations

The system was equipped with 10 pallet level-changing lifters and 16 pallet four-way shuttle robots, enabling efficient coordinated operation across three warehouse areas (two finished goods warehouses and one raw and auxiliary materials warehouse).

Operational Value

Under WCS scheduling, the shuttle robots and level-changing lifters can complete automated pallet movement, storage, retrieval, and transfer tasks. The system supports efficient handling of round drums and square IBC containers, with a maximum pallet load of 1.5 tons.

160 t/h Combined Throughput
60%–70% Efficiency Increase

The system also supports automated pallet matching before inbound storage. Different sub-pallets can be matched with internal circulation master pallets, helping reduce product compression, collision, and damage during storage and transfer.

FAQ

Why is pallet four-way shuttle ASRS suitable for lubricant additive warehousing?

It supports high-density pallet storage, flexible multi-directional movement, and automated handling for heavy chemical packaging formats such as drums and IBC containers.

Can the system manage raw materials and finished goods separately?

Yes. The warehouse can be divided into different zones, such as finished goods warehouses and raw material warehouses, with WMS managing inventory and batch information.

What role does WCS play?

WCS coordinates shuttle robots, level-changing lifters, conveyors, and other equipment to execute warehouse tasks accurately and efficiently.
