Fire protection and safety interlocks are critical in beverage finished goods ASRS projects. Because palletized cartons are stored in high-density racks, the warehouse must consider fire zoning, sprinkler layout, conveyor penetration points and equipment safety.

Fire Zoning Design

In the referenced beverage warehouse project, the warehouse area was approximately 6,800 m². Based on the building layout and fire protection requirements, the design used 4 fire zones and 3 fire walls.

This zoning helped divide the warehouse into manageable fire protection areas.

In-Rack Sprinkler Design

The rack height was 10.65 m, and the rack height exceeded the threshold where in-rack sprinkler design was required. Since the rack layer spacing was 2.475 m, and two rack layers exceeded 3 m in combined height, sprinklers were planned for each rack level.

This supports fire protection in high-density rack storage.

Fire Shutter and Conveyor Interlock

Where conveyors pass through fire zones, fire shutter door interlocks are important.

The interlock logic included:

  1. fire shutter open-position signal
  2. fire shutter close-request signal
  3. conveyor clearing logic
  4. permission signal for fire shutter closing

When the fire shutter requests closing, the conveyor system clears the closing area. Only after the area is clear can the fire shutter close.

Equipment Safety Design

The system also included:

  • Stacker Crane and RGVs safety fences
  • safety interlock doors
  • rack back mesh to prevent falling goods
  • emergency stop buttons
  • hydraulic buffers
  • anti-fall mechanism
  • overspeed protection
  • overload protection
  • slack-rope and broken-rope protection
  • location empty/occupied detection
  • goods deviation detection
