Anti-Sway and Safety Design for Ultra-High Heavy-Duty Pallet Stacker Cranes
When a Pallet Stacker Crane operates at 31.6 m height and handles load units up to 2,500 kg, safety and stability become central engineering issues. The challenge is not only lifting the load, but also controlling vibration, reducing impact, monitoring operation, and protecting goods and equipment during continuous high-bay operation.
In a DELIECN battery aluminum foil project, anti-sway and safety design were key parts of the ultra-high heavy-duty pallet Stacker Crane System.
Why Anti-Sway Design Is Necessary
High-bay stacker cranes may generate vibration during travel, lifting, deceleration, and fork movement. The higher the mast and the heavier the load, the more important vibration control becomes.
For this project, the Stacker Crane needed to handle oversized and heavy materials at 31.6 m height. The maximum load reached 2,500 kg. Without effective anti-sway design, load movement may affect positioning stability, equipment safety, and system efficiency.
Siemens VIBX Technology
DELIECN applied Siemens VIBX technology in the project.
This technology uses vibration suppression in the drive system. By adding a notch filter at the setpoint of the driven object, it helps suppress resonance within the natural frequency range and allows vibration to decrease more quickly.
For ultra-high heavy-duty Stacker Cranes, this helps improve running smoothness and supports safer high-bay operation.
Servo Drive Optimization
The stacker cranes used asynchronous servo motors. Through parameter adjustment, the system improved stability during acceleration, deceleration, lifting, and positioning. This helped reduce impact and vibration caused by speed changes, especially when handling heavy load units.
Video Monitoring
Each stacker crane was equipped with monitoring cameras on both sides. Operators can observe inbound and outbound operation, goods status, carrier position, and aisle conditions from the control room.
This improves abnormal situation detection and helps the operation team respond quickly when needed.
Fire Extinguishing System
The stacker crane load platform was equipped with a fire extinguishing system. A ground control cabinet was installed at the aisle end.
If a fire occurs in a storage location, operators can move the stacker crane to the specified position and activate the fire extinguishing device through the ground control cabinet for emergency handling. This design was selected according to the customer's material characteristics and storage safety requirements.
Mechanical and Operational Safety
The equipment also included multiple safety devices, such as:
- Staggered anti-collision buffers at the top and bottom
- Fall protection mechanism
- Storage location empty/occupied detection
- Load deviation detection
- Emergency stop devices
Cleanliness Protection
The project also configured dust removal at the inbound entrance. During inbound handling, the system cleans the external packaging of materials to reduce dust and impurities before storage. For battery aluminum foil materials, this supports cleaner storage and helps protect material quality.
Key Safety Design Points
For ultra-high heavy-duty pallet stacker crane projects, customers should evaluate:
- Maximum load and load center
- Mast height
- Material size and stability
- Operating speed
- Anti-sway requirements
- Drive configuration
- Video monitoring needs
- Emergency fire response method
- Load deviation detection
- Storage location detection
- Collision protection
- Inbound cleanliness requirements
